Parent Tip of the Month		M.S., LPC Staff Counselor	Christy Billings began her counseling career in 1986. She earned a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from the University of Texas at Arlington and a Master's Degree in Counseling from East Texas State University. Her experience has been focused strongly in the areas of physical and sexual abuse, chemical dependency, depression, crisis intervention and family issues. Christy also has experience in program development and curriculum writing for parenting groups and child and adolescent mental health services. She has had experience supervising and training other mental health professionals, as well as worked independently in private practice. Her professional experiences have allowed her the opportunity to work in many different settings, inpatient, outpatient, public schools, private schools and non-profit agencies, as well as, secular and faith-based organizations. Regardless of the environment her desire is to provide clients with a sense of hope and a deeper understanding of themselves and their struggles, with a focus on assisting the client with developing solution-oriented skills. Christy is an adjunct professor at Dallas Baptist University. Christy has an extensive history volunteering in her church and her community. She was elected to her local school board and served as Board President for 5 years. She has also lead and developed many school and community fund raising events. She and her entire family are involved in their local church in teaching and other ministry projects. Christy and her husband have been married for 23+ years and have 2 sons and a daughter. As a family they enjoy traveling, camping and sports, especially basketball. When she is not spending time with her family, Christy enjoys playing tennis, bicycling and reading.
